Tips & Techniques
The tips and techniques here are designed to help moms do their art. There are volumes of books available on how to do oil paintings and how to write, but these tips assume that you have kids upping the ante. If you do something that works and helps you create, send it in! We'll print it.
Buy newsprint for sketching much less expensively at moving supply stores. It's not bound into a book, but it's a third to a half of what it costs in art supply stores.
To get a dent out of a canvas: lay the canvas on a flat surface, unpainted side up. Get the dented area wet with hot water using a sponge and then wait a few minutes to let the water soak in. Apply a hot iron an inch or so over the canvas to steam away the water. DO NOT touch the iron to the canvas. It could scorch the material or damage the paint on the other side. Take it slow, and the dent should shrink away as it dries.
For a noisy environment: Get the silicon wax earplugs. These are especially good for babies.
For an environment where you need safety glasses: put swim goggles on your kid. This tip came from a dad blacksmith who needed to have his 3 yr old around when doing some work.
